Tunes
Thought we should post some videos of Kent since I’ve talked so much about his music. Some of the audios on these are not great as they’ve been put together from youtube.
We will start with “We Were Enchanted” because not only is the song class but the video by Kenny Reed is also a work of art. I just love Kents voice on this track, it has a feel as though the tune is from a bygone era (sounds British electro circa the early 80′s to me) but at the same time very modern. I guess electro pop is back in vogue again and that’s why you get that modern/old school vibe. Anyway you can be the judge, but give it time its a grower!
I hope you love that track even half as much as me!
Next up I managed to find Tea Leaves the video was apparently shot and produced by a dude called Dan Holmes. It has a very similar vibe to We Were Enchanted as its from the same album. Watch it go a little Beatlesque about half way through – or perhaps its just me who hears it?
I’ve covered “RP:Forget The metaphors” quite a bit in other posts so I had to include it here. In case you have not read the other stuff Kent was fascinated by River Phoenix as a youth and even more so as the shadow of celebrity cast itself over New York where he was living. This was Kent’s way of tackling both topics while paying a gentle tribute to Phoenix. The opening line that starts “I saw your mom…” is absolutely true Kent was at a an after party for a film and Rivers mother was there and it gave him the inspiration for the lyrics.
Unfortunately the owner of the video does not allow embeds but you can view it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zMnBBPyN8w
This track is kind of strange but at the same time beautiful. Its basically a narrative of him talking to River about the meeting at the party with his family. Nothing overblown or grandiose by design, fairly mundane. But the music and the voice gives it a haunting quality, particularly because we as the listener know he’s talking to a dead person. Moving, eerie and beautiful and beautiful is the right word. I think Kent achieved exactly what he wanted to with this ambitious piece, I adore it despite its idiosyncrasies or perhaps because of them. Truly original… what more can you ask for.
